After an exciting day 1 of Valorant Champions Tour Challengers 2 main event in Europe, day 2 is sure to bring just as much excitement and then some. Day 2 of the premiere Valorant event will see FunPlus Phoenix face Fnatic and OG (former Monkey business) go up against Team Heretics. Both, Team Heretics and Fnatic, had to go through the qualification process of VCT Challengers 2 after getting knocked out at Challengers 1.
Kirill “ANGE1” Karasiow’s FPX is looking strong as ever at this VCT Challengers event. Having beaten Team Liquid and Alliance, both with clean 2-0 scores, FunPlus Phoenix is so far shown to be one of the most solid teams at the event. In fact, they are yet to drop a map, showing just how prepared they are to go straight into Masters. Ever since FPX took on Dmitriy “dimasick” Matvienko, effectively replacing Johan “Meddo” Lundborg, the new Cypher main has come up big for this FunPlus Phoenix side.
Challenging FPX will be Fnatic, the former SUMN FC roster. Jake “Boaster” Howlett’s boys will have a huge task on their hands as they looked somewhat rocky throughout the event. Fnatic dropped maps against teams such as MAJSTERSZTYK, and PIT STOP. Games that should have been a breeze, instead were often a fight to claw back to victory. Their last matchup against Guild was no breeze either as the decider map went in their favor after overtime ensued. If Boaster’s boys can embrace their bravado, confidence, and flair from the SUMN FC days, then surely we’re going to have a tight game on our hands. Otherwise, FPX should come out on top given their unmatched resilience and consistency.
The organizaion-less team, Monkey business, has recently been picked up by OG after a long period of circling rumors surrounding the transfer. Now under the OG banner, the roster will have additional pressure to perform. While still under the Monkey business flag, the roster had a flawless run through the Challengers 1 stage, defeating the likes of Entropiq, Vitality or Guild Esports. Similarly to FPX, OG is coming into this matchup as the more “solid” team so far, with the difference of a possible additional pressure after getting signed by OG.
On the other side stands Team Heretics, the champions of European First Strike. Christian “lowel” Garcia Antoran’s side saw a huge premature exit from Challengers 1 after getting knocked out at the best-of-one stage by Entropiq. Ever since, Team Heretics has not looked back, bouncing back into Challengers 2. The team, did however, drop one map to Chakalaka at the play-in to Challengers 2. Nevertheless, these are the First Strike champions. With that status comes a responsibility to uphold their name. This match is the place to clear their name of any hiccups committed earlier in the event.
You can watch both VCT Challengers 2 matches on the official Valorant EU Twitch channel.
