The salaries of esports pros are usually kept under wraps from the general public with a few exceptions. Now, we can add Valorant to that list of exceptions following a recent tweet from an industry insider.
Jake Lucky, the host of the YouTube show Esports Talk, tweeted out a few days ago that Moses and NRG Co-CEO Andy Miller have confirmed that some Valorant pros have salaries of $20,000-$30,000 a month.
Some community users have noted that these salaries are far above average and are likely for tier 1 players like Spencer “Hiko” Martin, Jay “Sinatraa” Won, and Nicholas “nitr0” Cannella.
On the CS:GO side of things, there was a report back in July of this year about how much Astralis’ players earn. According to the Danish site B.T., the players received just under 200,000 Danish kroner per month or 2.4 million kroner per year. That translates to $31,351.40 per month or $376,216.80 per year.
The Overwatch League also released a report in October of 2019 regarding player salaries. According to them, the average player earned a $97K base salary with the median player salary at $80K. The minimum player salary in the entire league was $50K plus benefits.
From this, we can gather that those confirmed Valorant salaries are pretty close to CS:GO and Overwatch. This is especially surprising considering how new Valorant is compared to those other games. Of course, this is only a handful of players and it’s likely that most other players get paid way below that. It will be very interesting to see how the game’s pro scene develops in tandem with player salaries.
