If they weren’t the best team in the world before, they certainly are now. TSM has taken home the first Valorant Ignition Series victory in the T1 x Nerd Street Gamers tournament. While there were some slight hiccups in the road, it never seemed plausible TSM wouldn’t take this event. From the superstar players posting insane stat lines to some strange strategies, the Team SoloMid roster proved they’re the best on the planet. Check out how they did it and how the rest of this Valorant event unfolded.
Throughout the weekend, TSM never really looked fazed in any of their matches. Sure, they stumbled on some maps here and there, but for the most part dominated every team they went up against. Defeating Together We Are Terrific, FaZe Clan, and T1 twice, the roster really showed what they can do in Valorant.
TSM features a star-studded lineup, but this weekend Matthew “Wardell” Yu really took over. His sniping skills are almost unmatched in the scene right now, as he consistently top-fragged with an Operator or Marshal in his hands. In the final match against T1, Wardell put up a crazy 30-11 kill/death ratio. It’s clear the success of TSM hinges largely on Wardell’s performance.
While it was Wardell leading the way in terms of kills, TSM continues to implement a peculiar strategy as a whole. The roster has been playing without a Sage, opting for Stephen “reltuC” Cutler to use Cypher instead. Though it’s a bit odd in terms of the current Valorant meta, it seems to be paying dividends for TSM.
On the losing side of things, T1 fought and clawed their way back to the Grand Finals but came up just short. The roster managed an insane comeback against Immortals in the lower bracket though. They might not be up to TSM’s level yet, but T1 is certainly close than other rosters in the region.
Whether we’re talking about North America or the world, the consensus is no other squad currently rivals TSM. The roster just won the first Valorant Ignition Series event and thoroughly dominated. We’ll have to wait and see if other notable teams like FaZe Clan, Sentinels, 100 Thieves, etc. can make the leap to TSM’s level in the coming weeks.
Make sure to stay tuned to Run It Back for all things Valorant.
