Riot Games confirms Deathmatch Mode coming to Valorant soon

Riot Games’ newest edition of Ask VALORANT has confirmed that a new game mode, Deathmatch, is on the way to the competitive shooter.

While the Valorant community may have some gripes about the core gameplay, there are very few complaints about the overall experience. The Season 1 Battle Pass has outstanding cosmetics and other items to earn in exchange for play-time or cold hard cash. Riot Games also implemented a new game mode that wasn’t present in the Closed Beta, being Spike Rush. The mode is a great blend of competitiveness and goofiness that’s often missing from the standard Rated and Unrated playlists. However, some players have been asking for more, and it appears the developers are giving it to them soon.

Deathmatch arriving in Valorant

Since Valorant was revealed, many in the community asked about a Deathmatch game mode. If you’re not familiar with this mode, it’s essentially one team versus another in a race to a certain number of kills. Respawning is enabled and the game ends by one team reaching the kill limit or time expiring.

It’s a classic experience in FPS shooters like Call of Duty, CSGO, Halo, etc. However, at the start of Valorant’s full launch, Deathmatch wasn’t present. It seems that Riot Games wanted to implement a new experience, Spike Rush, instead of throwing in an old mode like Deathmatch.

Though, just because it’s not in the game currently doesn’t mean it won’t eventually arrive. According to Riot Games’ newest blog, Deathmatch is currently being developed and tested. Here’s a quote from Jared Berbach, the Lead Game Modes Producer for Valorant.

Deathmatch is absolutely a mode that is coming to VALORANT in the future. We don’t have a timetable yet, but it’s something where we’re actively working on the underlying technology as well as designing, iterating, prototyping, and playtesting right now.

So, while we don’t have a timetable for the mode, rest assured it’s arriving sometime in the future. Perhaps Season 2 of Valorant will see the introduction of the timeless game mode.
