Riot Games has been relatively quiet about the Valorant esports scene since launch. With many tournaments taking place in the meanwhile, none were officially affiliated with Riot. Finally, Riot has announced VALORANT Ignition Series, which brings tournament organizers into partnership with Valorant.
VALORANT Ignition Series aims to strike a partnership between Riot and Valorant and the tournament organizers. This helps the partnered tournaments gain recognition by Riot giving “spotlight” to “a few tournaments each week”. Additionally, the program allegedly aids in discovering new “talented players” alongside building “global recognition” to the top established competitive teams and professionals.
According to the announcement, the Ignition Series events will be held in eleven regions in total:
Riot Games will be in full support of the Ignition Series by hosting official channels with updated information on all partnered events. This information includes, among others, schedules of events and teams participating.
According to the announcement, Riot has already partnered with “more than 20 organizations” to provide the events worldwide. Additionally, there are two events planned for June already that will be part of the Ignition Series.
The two events will kick off June 19 and run through to June 21. The first one is G2 Esports Valorant Invitational (G2 x Ignition), taking place in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa). The event will pit eight captains and their teams against each other with a twist. The teams will only know who they are up against one day in advance. This will make it a difficult task to counter each other’s tactics and perhaps make the show more dynamic.
The second event, Rage x Ignition, will be held in the Japan region. 16 teams will be invited to participate in the first officially licensed Valorant event in Japan.
Furthermore, according to a picture of “June Schedule” another EMEA event and NA event will take place on June 26. It is yet to be announced, however.
