The franchising system that will be implemented in the professional VALORANT scene in 2023 continues to cause some teams to leave the competitive scene. North America-based Akrew and NYFU have announced that they were unable to advance to the next stage of applications and have temporarily ceased their operations.

Akrew revealed the news of their departure with a video of the organization’s CEO Daniel Luu speaking. Meanwhile, former NYFU players Andrew “ShoT_UP” Orlowski and Diondre “YaBoiDre” Bond shared the decision.

“Unfortunately, we did not make it to the next step of the VALORANT partnership. What this means is that we’re going to temporarily step back from competitive VALORANT. I’ve spent a ton of time thinking about this and for our organization it really doesn’t make sense with how unsure the tier 2 scene is going to play out for us to keep our team at this time.” Daniel said.

Established in October 2021, Akrew became one of the more prominent teams that stood out in the NA VALORANT Champions Tour with the squad they built in 2022. Despite that, they did not qualify for any VCT international LAN events. Most recently, they finished second in the NSG Summer Championship – Open 12 and Proving Grounds – April Anarchy.

On the NYFU side, the first statement came from ShoT_UP.

“With the recent decisions being made for VALORANT franchising, NYFU has decided to pull out of Val and with that I am LFT open to playing any role. No hate to NYFU – they put in a ton of effort to produce high quality content and their choice makes complete sense.” he said.

In addition, the roster’s former player YaBoiDre unveiled that he will be taking an indefinite break to figure out what he wants to do with his future.

NYFU roster was:

  • Jason “JSUNG” Sung
  • Diondre “YaBoiDre” Bond
  • Andrew “ShoT_UP” Orlowski
  • Chad “Oderus” Miller
  • Jason “neptune” Tran
