The NSG x Renegades Invitational kicked off its first day with the Group Stage. The Group Stage format saw teams compete in a best of one (BO1) contest. Winnners’ and Decider matches were best of three (BO3). The top two teams from each group would advance onto the Playoff format of day two. The first day of the event saw some expected victories, some surprising upsets, and an overall great showcase of NA Valorant talent.

Group A of the NSG x Renegades Invitational was probably the most status quo of the bunch. Gen.G and Immortals continued their lowkey rivalry, facing off after winning their opening games, with Gen.G coming out on top. The Rise Valorant team has been showing up consistently as of late, but beastcoast just happened to be better this time around to send them packing. The finale of this group saw Immortals manage to survive beastcoast and secure a spot in the playoff bracket.

Equinox Esports is comprised of the former China Nguyen roster. They have been labeled one of the top NA teams, up and coming or already there. That is probably the biggest shock of the first day, knowing Equinox will not be around for the playoff bracket. Andbox cruised through the group stage, not giving up a map. They are definitely a team to look out for when day two kicks off. The teams that caused Equinox’s demise would then go at it in the Decider Match. Cloud9 had no problem taking care of Complexity Gaming, moving on to the playoffs.

FaZe Clan was not playing around during this event. They took out the darkhorse, Mamba Mode Gaming (MMG), and then finished off the final two maps against Spacestation Gaming. For Luminosity, things did not play out in their favor as MMG bounced back in the Elimination Match. MMG carried that momentum into the Decider Match. They did not give up a map against Spacestation Gaming, launching them out of the event and launching themselves right into the playoffs.

The organization that teamed up with Nerd Street Gamers to present this tournament picked up precisely zero wins in the Group Stage. Renegades fell to Moon Raccoons and then were eliminated by Time In and the one and only Tyler “Ninja” Blevins. T1 had a very close opening bout against Time In, but persevered, and blanked the trash pandas from space. They were the first Group D team to advance. The final team to move on was decided in arguably the best series of the entire day. Time in and Moon Raccoons pushed each other to the limit. Although it was a 2:0 victory for Moon Raccoons, each map came down to the wire.

NSG x Renegades Invitational: Day 2 Preview

The second day of the NSG x Renegades Invitational will consist of a playoff bracket. The format is a single elimination bracket with each match being a best of three series. The bracket has been filled by the top two teams from each group. Gen.G will look to continue their winning ways against Moon Raccoons. Andbox and Mamba Mode Gaming will see one underdog team prevent another from continuing their Cinderella story. FaZe Clan and Cloud9 are sure to put on quite the show. Lastly, T1 and a scrappy Immortals squad will duke it out.
