Killjoy Defensive Setup Guide: Ascent

More maps are sure to arrive in Valorant over the course of its life. Until that point, the four we have are the four we must live with. Most recently added, with the full release of the game, Ascent has brought new angles to hold and new plays to make. The map itself is rather large but only contains two sites. The two sites are fairly walled off with doors to be closed and holes to hide in galore. This makes Killjoy an excellent choice to hold off a push or retake a site.
Bind, Split, and Haven have all been delivered. Read ahead for the best defensive setups for Ascent.
Turret placement is essential in detecting enemies and getting a few damage points done to them. On Ascent’s A Site, the heaviest part of any initial push will like come straight down A Main. Set the Turret at an angle on top of the box that hides the furthest corner of heaven. The Turret covers every entrance from the height it has. If they sneak around the back, if they come from Mid, or make the heavy push from A Main.
Another place the Turret benefits from is elevated right next to the A Main entrance. It does essentially the same as the first one mentioned, but a little more incognito. It can rotate and tag anyone coming from Heaven but also has a direct vision towards both doorways. An added bonus is if the door is closed, the enemy destroying it will be surprised by the Turret waiting on the other side.
The Alarmbot in this location can easily be paired with both of the Turret locations. The downside of it with the first location is that the Turret can be seen before the Alarmbot is activated. Setting it right by the A Main entrance will cause the opponent to rush in blindly to avoid it, get distracted to destroy it, and delay the push and send them back the way they came. This can work on either side of the doorway.
The second spot is exclusively for a surprise. If they come to expect the bot near the doorway, switch it up. Typically the enemy will plant the spike and move to their angle to hold. Some of those places include covering heaven or moving underneath it. This Alarmbot location will catch them off guard and give them a good scare as you and your teammates move to retake the site.
The Nanoswarm grenade handles default plant locations very well. The coverage of these things is amazing. The plant is more than likely going to go down next to the generator, either on the side or in front of it. Setting off the Nanoswarm inflicts damage in both of those locations. Set it next to the strap on the ground and wait for the cue.
If the first Nanoswarm sends the planter away into another location, this secondary spot may be where they end up. The two boxes in the middle of the site is a commonplace to crouch behind to watch the heaven approach. If you survive with the awareness of the enemy being in that location, pull the trigger. This will damage them or send them out in the open to be finished off.
The other three maps typically give a location above or outside of the sites that make Lockdown extremely capable of clearing things out. Ascent is a little bit tougher. Moving onto or near the sites usually means someone will see you. It only gets worse further in as more enemies will be waiting. For A Site, if you manage to clear it and know the enemies are rotating around or waiting in A Main, get under heaven and place it down. This also works as a deterrent. Feel free to place it in heaven behind the wall right above as well.
The first Turret location on B Site may just be the best location in all of Valorant. Simply place it on the barrels next to the entrance from Defender Spawn. The Turret will cover the door to Mid Market and the way in from B Main. The best part is that it isn’t very easy to see. To destroy it, the shots will need to be precise. The extra time to get rid of the Turret may leave the opponents open for some quick kills.
If the first Turret location ends up not working out, it’s okay to be a little more covert with it. Directly on B Site, on the box in the corner, place it straight on with the corner. This gives the 180-degree coverage across the site. If someone enters from the Defender Spawn side or from B Main side, they’ll be caught and tagged by the Turret.
If you place the Alarmbot near B Main, it needs to go right next to the upright boat. In most instances, the enemies will check the Defender Spawn area and the Mid Market doorway. Once they note those are clear, they will move in and check the pathway down to B Site. This will leave their backs wide open to the Alarmbot as it hones in. Pair this with the first Turret Location and some tags with double damage isn’t something to scoff at.
Pair this one with the second Turret location. Set the Alarmbot right in the middle of the wall where players drop into B Site. In order to destroy it, the enemy will have to look straight down from the wall. This will get them tagged by the Turret or leave them open for you or a teammate to jump out of B Back and lay into them.
The most common plant spot in B Site is behind the middle stack of boxes. For now, until it is possibly fixed with a patch, the Nanoswarm can be set between the boxes. Be sure to place it fairly close to the ground. If it goes in the slot between the boxes too high, the enemy can crouch underneath it. Set off the Nanoswarm as you hear the plant go down and more than likely, they’ll be caught in that spot.
If the first Nanoswarm sends the enemy running off to plant elsewhere, this is likely to be where they end up. Hit them with a double whammy. The Nanoswarm here goes in the corner of the other stack of boxes, near the stairs towards Defender Spawn. The effect is the same. They’ll be sent running from their hiding spot out into the open.
The B Site Lockdown is best to retake the site after the spike has been planted. There is literally nowhere for them to run. If they try to escape, they’ll end up with crosshairs aplenty aimed at them. Initiate the Lockdown Ultimate ability and just wait for the countdown to end. The opponents that are holding the site will be detained and your team can move in to clean them up and defuse.
