The G2 Valorant Invitational tournament has come to a close. After a weekend of intense Valorant action, Team Mixwell has taken home €10,000 of the €15,000 prize pool after beating Team draken at the end of playoffs in the grand finale. The event was part of Riot’s Ignition partnership.
The tournament kicked off with the group stage. Eight teams were split into Group A and B, with the winner of each group advancing straight to the semi-finals. Second and third places would then advance to the quarter-finals, while the fourth place from each group was eliminated in the group stage of the event. Here are all the teams and results of the group stage.
Team Mixwell and Team Taimou were the winners of their respective groups. Team arch and Team Izak were eliminated from the event as both teams failed to win a single match (out of three).
The playoffs pit six teams against each other in a best-of-three series. Here is the roundup of the playoffs of G2 Invitational.
Team Mixwell sailed through Team Ange1 in the semi-finals with a clean 2-0 win. The second finalist, Team draken, had a longer road to get to the final. Draken and co. had to defeat Team Ex6tenz in the quarter final before moving onto going head to head with Team Taimou, the winners of Group B. In the end, Team draken defeated Team Taimou by a slight margin with a 2-1 score in the BO3.
The final of G2 Invitational event saw Team Mixwell and Team draken go head to head in the BO3. Team Mixwell looked as follows:
Meanwhile, draken’s team boasted an equally rich roster consisting of the following:
Funnily enough, ocelote, the founder of G2 Esports, got to go toe-to-toe with G2’s first official signing for the organization’s Valorant team, mixwell himself. Mixwell had to prove to his boss that he was the right pick. And he did, especially on the second map.
After a solid showing from mixwell and co. on Haven, taking the map for themselves 13-7, Split was up next, which was choice of draken’s team. Team Mixwell started off on the defense side. Something switched on in mixwell’s mind as the Spaniard went off to take his team to the sky by getting 26 kills in 10 rounds (in a half), including an AWP ace. His team took the map 13-1, something that nobody expected.
It’s safe to say that ocelote thought to himself that he made the right choice by bringing mixwell onto G2’s Valorant roster.
