Oscar “mixwell” Cañellas Colocho has announced via Twitter that he has been “officially benched from G2.” The former G2 Esports star also disclosed that he’s allowed to search for other opportunities and is open to offers.
G2’s VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) journey in 2022 started off rather poorly. A 2-0 defeat to Team Vitality, followed by a 2-1 loss to Alliance saw G2 fly out to the Challengers 2 open qualifier. Likely to have been the biggest surprise bust of the event, G2 decided to pull out a wildcard going into the their last chance to make the EMEA Challengers, Cista “keloqz” Wassim. This change was at the expense of mixwell himself.
The last-minute roster change saw G2 near-flawlessly reach the Challengers 2 closed qualifier. There, a revenge win on Alliance, a 2-1 victory against TENSTAR, was followed by a 3-1 triumph over EXCEL to grab one of the last two remaining slots for EU at the EMEA Challengers.
keloqz put up an overall solid performance upon his return to G2. He especially shined at the final match against EXCEL, putting up big numbers for his side in order to seal the deal for his team in the upcoming EMEA event.
mixwell has been a part of G2’s VALORANT roster from the very beginning. The Spaniard, up until now, has survived throughout the various roster changes and transformations of the roster and was seen as the team’s staple player.
It is currently unknown whether mixwell will return to his roots and transition back to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The tweet certainly does not to point in any particular direction for the European talent.
