DarkZero, the esports organization known for its Rainbow Six siege team, has entered professional Valorant with the former Kooky Koalas roster. The new DarkZero team will make its competitive debut during the open qualifiers for the Valorant Champions Tour Stage one Challengers One event.

Kooky Koalas is a previously unsigned roster that secured a spot in the VCT Stage One Challengers Three main event. The team defeated Spacestation Gaming, Built By Gamers, and beastcoast in the qualifiers to secure a spot in the main event. Unfortunately, they lost against Luminosity and Gen.G gaming. Making it into a significant tournament was still an impressive feat, however.

Kooky Koalas did relatively well in lower-tier events ever since. The team now has the support of a significant organization and another chance for success in VCT Stage Three. They most recently won the Pittsburgh Knights June $5,000 tournament and defeated Soniqs in the finals.

DarkZero was founded in 2018 and has become a giant name in Rainbow Six Siege. The organization’s R6 team finished in the top six at the Six Invitational in 2020. They also won the August Major and defeated TSM in the finals.

Excitement about the Future of Darkzero Valorant

Team captain Andy “Andersin” collins expressed his excitement about joining DarkZero in an official press release.

“To be picked up as a full team is an amazing feeling,” Andersin said. “I know that this opportunity isn’t one that many teams get to receive. To not only accomplish this, but have the complete support of an organization at the caliber of DarkZero, it’s completely overwhelming. From day one we have been completely taken care of in every regard. And the amount of support they provide has been incredible. With DarkZero behind us, we truly have an advantage. And we can’t wait to show the fans what we can do.”

DarkZero CEO and Founder Zachary Matula also explained how the organization is excited to expand into Valorant:

“We’ve spent the last few years building the model for our organization and this is a very exciting opportunity for DarkZero to expand into a new scene. Riot has supported League of Legends esports, and with the health of that ecosystem we trust they will mirror that in Valorant. This team has shown they can compete with the best in the world and we look forward to seeing what they can do with the support of our program.”
